General Details

Software Freedom Day Singapore will be held at the National Library Building on Saturday, 17 September 2011. Exhbitions will take place at the outdoor Pavilion; presentations will take place in the seminar room. The theme was decided to be “Openly, Socially Mobile ”. Brandon Lum estimated that the sponsorship needed for the event is S$5000.

Website/Design Team

Brandon Lum decided that Maxus Media, Pte. Ltd., will be responsible for the design and development for the entire Software Freedom Day Singapore website, as well as graphics and advertising collaterals for the event. Sven Ryen is the major point of contact with MaxusDavid Rigby is responsible for the maintainence, creation of simple forms, and uploads to the website.

Forms for interested exhibitors, presentors and volunteers will be created as soon as possible. The Software Freedom Day Singapore website will be based on Drupal version 7. Current content for Software Freedom Day 2010 will be archived for future reference.

  • Action (Sven): Design of Software Freedom Day Singapore website.
  • Action (David): Create contact forms for exhibitors, presentors and volunteers.
  • Action (David): Move Software Freedom Day Singapore 2010 pages into archive.
  • Action (Brandon): Check back with team on 21 or 22 May to confirm that forms are active.

Talks/Sponsors Team

Brandon is responsible for contacting and confirming presenters for the talks. He will be assisted by Mike, Darrel and Hamizah. The team is to liase with the speakers, and to inform them of the date, time slots and location of the talk. The logistics, timekeeping and conduct of the talks will be handled by the team as well. Details of the talks include information such as the Name of the Speaker, the Company the speaker represents, and the title as well as abstract of the talk.

Possible companies to approach for speakers include:

  • Red Hat
  • Google
  • Amazon
  • Others as recruited

Brandon proposed a possible topic on the impact of New Media on the recent General Elections. To promote the event, freebies and a Lucky Draw are ideas which were mooted.

  • Action (Team): Handle the talks, taking care of planning, organizing and facilitating.
  • Action (Mike): Handle sponsorship talks.

Exhibits Team

Chee Siong is to head the exhibits team by contacting interested exhibitors and signing them up for Software Freedom Day Singapore. The Exhibits Team will determine and deliver the information about the booths to be set up, handle logistics for the exhibitions, as well as running the exhibits on the day itself. Chee Siong will be assisted by Muhammad Heidir, Alix, Loong Jin and Sean TM.

The placement of the booths and music for the Pavilion are yet to be decided. Some ideas for the exhibits area are:

  • Brandon suggested having balloons for the event, as well as appropriate music to draw in a crowd.
  • Volunteers to give out flyers and to help out at the event will be recruited, mainly through the online form.
  • An Ubuntu Linux installation demostration from a thumb drive will be scheduled.
  • The ideas of distributing LiveCDs, using GroupOn to ticket giveaway items were mooted as well.

The following action items have been assigned:

  • Action (Team): Send out the link for the form to potential exhibitors and helpers.
  • Action (Chee Siong): Research contractors for setting up the booths and provide electrical power.
  • Action (Heidir ): Contact Koh Suhaw of Ubuntu Local Community group for 11.04 LiveCDs.
  • Action (Alix): Check if a musician can play for the event.

Any Other Business
